Our skilled tradesmen adapted and installed reclaimed and salvaged materials to create period bedchambers, including one at the top of the castle’s tower. We also converted ancient stables into a state-of-the-art, finely-equipped kitchen facility including cold rooms and gas ovens.

The works involved many specialist trades, including traditional rendering with horsehair and lime. Our experienced tradesmen also procured and used specialist materials such as polished marble and granite.

Access to the room at the top of the tower was via a 77-step spiral staircase. This made bringing building materials, equipment and a large bed to the workspace exceptionally challenging.

The hotel and conference facilities were in use throughout the works, so we had to adapt our working practices to avoid early morning noise. Carefully phased deliveries and operative movements around the site minimised disruption to the hotel and its guests.
